Lightweight, robust and minimalistic climbing backpack for alpinists

Light and robust: Our lightweight climbing backpack TRAD ZIP 26 is a new addition to our alpine CLIMBING SERIES.

This light, 26-liter climbing backpack is a genuine minimalist that is focused upon the basics: Small essentials can be stowed in the lid compartment. Your equipment can be quickly and securely accessed via the practical toploader opening. The TRAD ZIP 26 features fasteners for your helmet, ice axe and rope; more loops are at hand for affixing any other gear you might wish to take with you. The aluminum frame in the back section can be removed if you wish to save more weight. Hydration system compatibility and a bottle holder will ensure you’re always well-supplied when on the move. Robust polyamide ripstop fabric ensures protection against scuffs and rough rock

Safety first! A real alpine climbing backpack, the TRAD 26 is equipped with an emergency card, which contains all the important information a mountaineer might need. In addition, the CLIMBING SERIES has the proven rescue system for emergencies integrated. Combined with the SAR rescue system, a Recco reflector integrated into the backpack ensures that injured or missing persons can be quickly located.

RESCUE SYSTEM FOR EMERGENCIES

Recco’s SAR rescue system is a helicopter-based detector that can be used to search large areas for people in distress in the shortest time possible. A small reflector, which is integrated into the TRAD climbing rucksacks, is required for visibility. This ensures that people can be located quickly and provides the best possible protection, no matter what the season. The SAR system is already being used in many areas.

BACK SYSTEM: HIGH FLEX CONTACT

The back system for this climbing backpack features a lightweight, removable aluminum frame and a full-contact carrying system. The frame is very flexible, but rigid along the horizontal axis in order to bear as much weight as possible. Thanks to its 3D shape, the backpack fits snugly onto the back and guaranties great freedom of movement and optimum comfort.

This is an excellent minimalist cragging pack, or “up-and-over” pack for multi-pitch climbing with longer approaches/descents. It fills a void in my quiver of pack between the 18-20L “summit-type” packs, and the smaller end of cragging packs. I use this for multi-pitch guiding in Eldorado Canyon when I don’t want to leave a larger pack at the base of the climb, yet still need a pack to carry my gear to/on/from the climb. I was able to fit a lightweight trad rack and slings, a harness, climbing shoes, chalk bag, 2L of water, food, a rain coat, and a small FA kit into the pack for approaches, and then transition to using it as a climbing pack for the climbs and descents. The top-loading zipper allows for efficient packing, and provides easy access during the climb. The lid has an outside zip pocket that was useful for things I wanted quick access to, and an inside zip pocket that provided security and protection for a cell phone, wallet and keys. The pack has a lightweight internal frame and padded back panel that provide great support and comfort—the pack carries very well both on approaches and climbs. Lightweight, but still has stood up to some abuse. It is also quite stylish, and works equally well as a travel pack. A great pack!
