Less weight, more performance

Lightweight, water-resistant insulating jacket with Swisswool for ski tours

Highlights

  • Less weight with increased insulation
  • Excellent moisture regulation
  • Maximum freedom of movement

The Swisswool PIZ BOÈ JACKET for men is ideal for the discerning ski tourer who knows that less is more: less weight, less volume but more performance.

The robust PERTEX® QUANTUM shell makes the lightweight insulating jacket extremely windproof and abrasion resistant, with the quilted outer fabric providing a stylish pixel look. A 60 g/m2 Swisswool® lining not only provides excellent insulation against the cold, the fibers also have a moisture-regulating function, absorbing up to 35% of their own weight in moisture. Thanks to its athletic cut and elastic MERINO NATURETEC LIGHT inserts under the arms, the Swisswool PIZ BOÈ JACKET for men adapts to your every move, even in the most demanding terrain.

The tight-fitting, elastic hood, elastic waistband and cuffs keep the wind and cold at bay on freezing summits. The two generous front pockets and breast pocket provide space for items you need to keep at hand, even if you have a backpack or belt.

The Swisswool PIZ BOÈ JACKET for men is therefore the ideal companion for demanding tours, where low weight and maximum performance are required.

Ended up buying this jacket as I wanted an insulation layer that was water resistant, and would still be warm when wet. Found out about Ortovox from an outdoorgearlab.com review of the Piz Bial (men's equivalent is Piz Boval I think), but I wanted something with a hood, and this seemed to match up well. I love fit, and I really love the vents. In a light rain, I can forgo my rain jacket. Only things that would make it better would be less weight, and a stow pocket. But, that's how I ended up buying the Zebru as well :)

The jacket is good. Good cut and very comfortable. But why are you distorting the colors on your website in such a way? The same thing happened last season. For example Petrol Blue. The website color has nothing to do with the real one. You can just see the real color in the video. But the photos are cheeky. Here it would be fair to show the real colors.

Servus Hans, du hast recht und wir sind auch dran, alle Produktfotos mit Fotos, die die Farben perfekt darstellen, auszutauschen. Danke aber für deinen Hinweis. Christina. ORTOVOX Servus Hans, you're right and it's our turn to replace all product photos with photos that show the colors perfectly. But thanks for your note. Christina. ORTOVOX

Ski touring
This is a really nice, high-end jacket that I use it for both ski touring during the winter and summer activities high in the Rockies (3000+ m). The Pertex Quantum shell is very wind and water resistant, and it has held up well against the rigors of high-alpine activities for a couple of years. When BC skiing on particularly cold days, this piece breaths exceptionally well with the pocket zippers open ,yet still keeps you warm. During the summer, I use this when hiking up to a lake at 04:00 and/or when bad, cold weather rolls in during the afternoon. I spend a lot of time fishing alpine lakes and, even if I fall into the water and wet my jacket, I can count on it still being warm after I squeeze out the water. The same cannot be said of other, poly-fill jackets that I own. My only gripe is the fit. I'm 180cm tall, 102cm in the chest, with an 84cm arm length and 81cm waist. The medium fits but feels a little snug when bending over. I'd like to see a little shoulder/chest room provided in future iterations of this jacket. This was my goto midlayer during 30 skiing days at Hokkaido powder terrain. It was windy and snowing constantly. Most of the days stared with Ski lift access powder, however after few runs the best snow needed me to put skins and hike up to the untouched field. It was relatively cold and windy, so I kept hard shell with ventilations open on top. I started to feel sweaty quite soon. Even wet this setup was warm. Next day, when still dry, I took the shell of before skinning hike, weather was the same. I felt a bit chilly in the start. After warming on hike up after 5 minutes, this jacket and pants really started to work. With the hood I was able to adjust warmer on the top of the mountain where wind was catching up and it was really chilly. After this experience I kept my shell in the avalanche backpack as backup rest of the powder days. I was amazes how well this mid layer kept me protected, not sweaty in windy and constantly snowing condition during the day. I didn’t use hard shell even when going down. It is good to carry the shell anyway, if the snow storm hits, you will need more protection than this breathable set gives. 粉雪
