THE BENCHMARK IN HARDSHELL COMFORT

Robust, weatherproof freeriding jacket with soft merino lining

Highlights

  • Unique feel
  • Protection in all conditions
  • Optimum freedom of movement

Listen up, freeriders: With clever details, clear lines, and fresh colors, the 3L GUARDIAN SHELL JACKET for men is ready for action in steep couloirs.

It features a unique combination of high-performance Toray DERMIZAX®EV membrane and a full lining in fine merino wool. The wool has a temperature- and moisture-regulating effect and feels pleasantly soft, while the membrane provides protection against water and wind. Thanks to its robust membrane and flat seams, this freeriding jacket is particularly durable and long-wearing. It is also PFC-free and climate-neutral in the interest of sustainability.

To guarantee full freedom of movement, the 3L GUARDIAN SHELL JACKET for men is soft and lightweight. The ergonomic underarm ventilation zippers are easy to open and provide additional ventilation when the going gets tough. Details such as the higher hem adjustment and concealed hood adjustment ensure an optimum fit and easy use.

The spacious front pockets, inner pocket and ski pass pocket provide ample room for small objects and whatever else you don’t want to put in your backpack. One particularly practical feature is the integrated cell phone pocket in the front left pocket, where merino mesh protects your battery against the cold.

I have used the Guardian shell and pant for a few season now. It looks as good today as it did the day I got them. I use these on cold, wet and powder days. I have found these to be bomb proof. I highly recommend the guardian shell and pant. I have used the Guardian shell and pant for a few season now. It looks as good today as it did the day I got them. I mainly bought these to use for long distance hiking in the mountains during the winter season as well as for skiing mostly in the Sierra Mountains of California. The jacket really is awesome and has so many features. Thankfully I was able to get it on a crazy blackfriday sale for roughly 70% off. Otherwise there's no way I could afford this. This is why I took off one star. I love Ortovox gear and have used a wide variety of their gear for years. It's well made, holds up well etc. I took off one star just because of the price point. Although the jacket is fully lined with merino wool, it's relatively light and you'll still need other baselayers etc. Again all that's fine and usually expected, and I'm happy I was able to find it on sale but I wish their gear wasn't so pricey. I'm also a little worried about this merger with ARC'TERYX. I JUST HOPE IT DOESN'T change any of the quality of Ortovox gear or availability. ARC'TERYX is also a great company but since the merger I haven't been able to find several things that used to always be in stock like their quarter length (warm) socks which I love for thu hiking. They are 5 stars but lately they are almost impossible to find. Back to the jacket, very functionalots of pockets, even a special merino wool lined pocket to keep your cell phone in or while you're sleeping you can put your water filter in that pocket so it won't freeze . I just bought this and am waiting to see if it fits and I like the feel and the weight. If not I'm going to return it for one of their ortlet jackets that are half weight but no insulation. I also can't seem to find what the warranty is on these I'm hoping it's 5 years to lifetime. After I receive these I will upgrade my review. Overall it's a beautiful jacket, my main thing is the weight. If I find this is too heavy I'll return it for one of their 3L Ortler jacket I mainly bought these to use for long distance hiking in the mountains during the winter season as well as for skiing mostly in the Sierra Mountains of California. I use the jacket for hiking and skiing, and I especially appreciate the fabric and stitching. However, I must say that for a jacket that costs almost 800.00 euros, I expected more attention to ergonomics and fit. The hood is too big and uncomfortable, it does not follow the movements of the head even if you use the straps. The merino wool phone pocket would be a good idea, but it is too small and cannot contain a smartphone, so it is useless. The collar when closed is excessively rigid under the chin and could be more comfortable. In short, in general it is a good product, but with many defects. It is worth buying only if you find it on sale.
