ON A SKI TOUR: REVIEWING THE PLAN & OBSERVING DANGERS
OUT IN THE FIELD
ON TOUR
After planning our tour at home or in the cabin, we are now at the starting point of our ski tour, in the parking lot or perhaps already in the mountains. Following the 3x3 filter method, we are now at the second level or in the second phase. All of the assumptions made during planning must be double-checked and, if necessary, altered. The following questions can help you do this: Is the amount of new snow or wind-drifted snow as you expected or is the overall amount of snow not as expected? What is the weather like in the mountains? What are the wind, temperature and visibility like? How are all your group members? Have you got a full set of equipment? Where are you going? Are there already tracks in the snow and are other groups already out in the mountains? So when it comes to risk assessment, there is a lot to check and categorize at this point.
