Experience the world of glaciers with our SAFETY ACADEMY alpine touring course from ORTOVOX! Our comprehensive training gives you the tools to travel successfully in the alpine environment and on glaciers. Careful planning and preparation are essential to quickly identify and avoid alpine hazards. We place particular emphasis on the selection and proper use of your equipment, including important rope techniques that will support you in a variety of situations. Our experienced mountain guides will not only teach you how to safely use ropes, ice axes and crampons, but also how to move and orient yourself independently and safely on glaciers.

ORTOVOX SAFETY ACADEMY HIGH ALPINE

HIGH ALPINE TOURING COURSE

In order to maintain control in critical situations, you will be trained in crevasse rescue techniques and rope systems to prevent and stop falls. You will learn to move independently on glaciers as a rope team and to build strong, suitable anchors in ice and snow. After three days of training, you will apply what you have learned under supervision on Mount Hood.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Imparting basic knowledge and skills of glacier, ice and mountain tours
Safe walking with crampons (walking in balance and front-pointing)

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

Basic knowledge or courses in mountaineering
Safe footing on the approach area and very good fitness for 8-10 hour climbing routes approaches
Knowledge of knotting techniques is an advantage, but not mandatory
