VOLUNTARY RECALL OF AVABAG LiTRIC MODELS In winter 22/23

Only the AVABAG LITRICs delivered in Winter 22/23 are affected by the voluntary recall.

Dear ORTOVOX customer:  

German mountain sports expert ORTOVOX and the North American outdoor brand Arc’teryx share a common passion: the mountains.  Four years ago we joined forces, with the goal of developing an electronic avalanche airbag system that would set a new standard. The result: the LiTRIC™ SYSTEM, a milestone in mountain safety.   

Unfortunately, we recently became aware of a technical issue. In rare cases, this issue impacts the in winter 22/23 delivered airbag’s inflation system and reduces its protective effect. There is no risk from the LiTRIC system itself.  

For this reason, ORTOVOX is voluntarily recalling all ORTOVOX AVABAG LiTRIC models purchased in Winter 22/23, including the Zip-Ons (AVABAG LiTRIC TOUR, AVABAG LiTRIC FREERIDE, AVABAG LiTRIC ZERO). For safety reasons, we ask that you stop using your AVABAG LiTRIC delivered in winter 22/23 in terrain at risk of an avalanche and return it to us. The AVABAG LiTRICs from Winter 23/24 onward are not affected by this.

WHICH PRODUCTS ARE AFFECTED?

It concerns all electronic ORTOVOX AVABAG LiTRIC models including zip-ons from the 22/23 winter season:

  • AVABAG LiTRIC TOUR
  • AVABAG LiTRIC FREERIDE
  • AVABAG LiTRIC ZERO


Not affected are the AVABAG LiTRICs from Winter 23/24 onward, as well as the mechanical AVABAG airbag backpacks with cartridge systems.

HOW CAN I IDENTIFY IF MY AVABAG LITRIC IS AFFECTED?

Distinctive features for distinguishing between AVABAG LITRIC models from the Winter 22/23 season and the revised version in the Winter 23/24 season are the screws on the Airshield (orange cover of the fan unit) and the webbing on the outside of the airbag compartment.

 

 

HOW DO I RETURN MY AVABAG LiTRIC?

This depends on where you bought it

1. ORTOVOX ONLINE SHOP

If you bought your AVABAG LiTRIC from the ORTOVOX online store, you will be contacted directly by our customer service team. They will give you all the necessary information on how to return your product. 
2. RETAIL (IN STORE or ONLINE) 

If you bought your AVABAG LiTRIC model from a specialist dealer, you can return it there with the relevant receipt. Our retail partners have been informed and will be happy to help you there.
